Voice Provider

INterDEPENDENCE gives a voice to people who often have very little say in their own lives; a group that any of us could suddenly join at any time. And many of us will. INterDEPENDENCE has attracted international attention after receiving a Silver Award from the 2020 Spotlight Documentary Film Awards. This documentary also received received a selection at the 11th annual Winnipeg Real To Reel Film Festival which aims to “encourage, challenge and inspire people to a greater understanding of the human journey.” And the Revelatio International Film Festival based in Russia selected INterDependence as a semi-finalist as part of its mission as a strong advocate for social change, cultural diversity and understanding between nations.

Second Class Citizens

As if having a disability wasn’t enough in and of itself, they face a society that treats them as, in the words of one interviewee, “second class citizens”. A dozen people with disabilities from around Wisconsin share their experiences and perspectives in this documentary. Some were born with a disabling condition, others acquired it later in life. Many feel they don’t have anything to lose by “telling it like it is”, and they hope, ultimately, that revealing their personal, private lives will help the disability rights movement as a whole. Their insightful, poignant stories provide an understanding into the challenges, frustrations and successes they face as people on the margins who are living, or trying to live, in the mainstream of society.
